DIN 982 nylon insert lock nuts are prevailing torque type lock nuts with a permanent undersized non-metallic insert (nylon/polyamide) that creates friction between the threads of mated components, increasing resistance to loosening forces. While similar to DIN 985, DIN 982 nuts have a greater total height. These nuts can be reused a limited number of times since the threads of the mating bolt deform but do not cut into the polymer insert. Considered one-way lock nuts, they can only be installed top up. The nylon insert limits their use at elevated temperatures or when exposed to certain chemicals.
